A weekend between history and the future

"This weekend full of events has come to an end for the Augustinianum, but also for the Marianum College. We celebrated together our College and, above all, your 80th anniversary of its foundation. A really nice party. On the occasion of this anniversary, I dedicate a brief reflection to the friends of the Marianum. During today's beautiful meeting, through "testimonies", we talked about the role of women in our society and a lot about gender equality: with highly topical topics where it is easy to fall into the usual carelessness. These two hours, on the other hand, were really intense and full of ideas. However, I would like to share one thought. We can all be very proud of the fact that, while many still speak with slogans of equal opportunities, as early as the 1930s and 1940s, here at our university, gender equality was practiced every day. Thanks to the genius of Father Gemelli and the dedication of Armida Barelli, hundreds of girls and boys, from all walks of life and backgrounds, were able to access the best university studies in Milan, without any distinction. Everyone, even the most needy, thanks to the free places. The two historic colleges of Università Cattolica continue this mission, aware that they have received a great legacy of freedom and authentic equality, always in the wake of scientific rigour. At the University of Largo Gemelli, quotas for women have never been needed. Happy birthday Marianne!"

Edoardo Grossule, Director of the Augustinianum College

As per tradition, the associations of former collegiate students of Università Cattolica met again this year in November: moments of sharing and meeting between students of yesterday and today who have lived this intense and original residential experience during their course of study.

An important date for the Marianum College, which celebrated its eightieth birthday and the twentieth anniversary of the Association of former Mariana M.E.A. The residence remained open to guests, welcomed in the garden of the College, for a guided tour together with the collegiate schools with buffet to follow in the cloisters of the University, next to the photographic exhibition The College of yesterday and today and the reading-show in the Aula Magna of The other half of the sky, a representation freely taken from The catalog of valiant women by Serena Dandini, by and with Sandra Zoccolan, Virginia Zini and Matilde Facheris, accompanied on the piano by Mel Morcone.

The morning of Sunday, November 11 was dedicated to meetings reserved for the College and its girls of yesterday and today.

The Augustinianum College, on the other hand, hosted the XXIII meeting of the students of the Augustinianum College and kicked off the year's in-depth study, this year on the theme The model of "Catholic welfare" as an instrument of excellence in the country: health, school and society, with the intervention of Tiziano Treu, former Agostino, full professor of Labor Law and president of CNEL. In addition, the graduation prizes were awarded, including the Augustine of the Year Award and the Realmonte and U. Pototschnig Prizes, and the deceased former collegiate students were remembered.
